The Woodridge High School girls track and field program wrapped up another successful spring campaign at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus on Saturday. Many of the young women that finished the season had personal bests and gained experience for a variety of future endeavors.
In the field events, junior Nicole Seff became the first girl in Woodridge history to qualify to the state championships in the pole vault. Her trip to Columbus resulted in a lifetime best of 9′ 6″ and tremendous hope and expectations for her senior year.
The distance crew was well represented on the podium in Columbus. All-Ohio honors go to those individuals and teams that score in the top eight of the meet.
On Friday, the 3200 relay team ran the second best time in school history and finished 4th in the event. Natalie Fleming (Youngstown State recruit), Molly Howard, Katie Kearns (Mount Vernon Navarene recruit), and Nicole Fleming (Kent State recruit) combined to run 9:21 and sealed a podium spot.
On Saturday, Nicole Fleming came back in the 1600 and ran a lifetime best of 5:05 to finish 6th in the event and earn All-Ohio honors in this event as well. Freshman Libby Howard finished 12th in the 3200 meter run and gained valuable experience for the future.
The girls combined to score 8 points and this was good enough for a top 30 finish in the state.
The 2017 graduating class was a special one for the track and cross country programs. In all, eight student-athletes will compete at the collegiate level. These student-athletes will join recent graduates Aamirah Howard (Mount Union), Caprece Conrad (Lake Erie), Tomy Pyle (Wittenberg), John Harry (Mercyhurst), Allyson Dryer (IUP), Madison Spreitzer (Kent State), Timmy Faiken (Heidelberg), Seth Conard (Allegheny), and Erin Kiley (John Carroll) in the college ranks next year!
