Woodridge Athletic Hall of Fame

Celebrate the athletes, coaches, and community members who represent the very best of Woodridge. The Woodridge Athletic Hall of Fame honors excellence in competition, leadership, and character—on and off the field.

Nomination Window: When nominations open, a notice will be posted on the Woodridge district website with instructions and deadlines.

Induction Criteria (At-a-Glance)

Five-Year Waiting Period: All candidates—athletes, coaches, and contributors—are eligible for consideration five (5) years after their Woodridge graduation or retirement.

Two Paths to Induction:
  • Automatic Inductees (after the 5-year waiting period and following a submitted nomination) — see details below.
  • Non-Automatic Nominations (voted on by the Selection Committee) — see details below.

Character & Conduct: All inductees must exemplify high moral standards, good character, and integrity.

Automatic Inductees (After 5 Years)

To qualify for automatic induction status (pending nomination), a candidate must have achieved one or more of the following while at Woodridge High School:
  • First Team All-Ohio
  • First Team All-League in the same sport for three years
  • Two-Time All-League Player of the Year
  • Akron Beacon Journal Player of the Year
Important: Even if an individual meets one or more of the criteria above, they must still be nominated after their five-year waiting period. When the nomination window opens, information will appear on the district website. Those selected will be notified with next steps and event details.

Non-Automatic Nominations (After 5 Years)

If a student-athlete did not meet the automatic criteria but had an exemplary interscholastic athletic career at Woodridge High School, they may be nominated for consideration through the Selection Committee process.
  • Eligibility: Five (5) years post-graduation.
  • Committee Vote: Inductees are selected by a majority decision of the Selection Committee formed by the Woodridge Alumni Association in collaboration with Hall of Fame Directors.
  • Class Size: Up to three (3) non-automatic inductees per Hall of Fame class.
  • Nomination Duration: Nominations remain active for three (3) years. After that, a new nomination must be submitted to continue consideration. There is no limit to how many times a candidate may be nominated.
  • Verification: All accomplishments and credentials must be verified.
  • Notification: If an individual is elected, a committee member will contact them with instructions on how to proceed.
  • The committee reserves the right to add more than 3 non-automatic inductees if necessary.
When nominations open, the district website will post instructions and deadlines.

Selection Committee

Purpose: The Selection Committee ensures a fair, community-centered process representing Woodridge’s past and present.
Formation: The committee is created by the Hall of Fame Directors—the Woodridge Athletic Director, Superintendent, and High School Principal—in consultation with the Woodridge Alumni Association.
Composition (representation goal):
  • At least two (2) current Woodridge High School Varsity Head Coaches
  • Two (2) Woodridge community members (residents, faculty, etc.)
  • The current Athletic Director
  • One (1) Alumni representative
  • One (1) member of the Woodridge Foundation Board
Terms & Appointments:
  • Members serve three-year terms.
  • At the end of each term, committee membership is re-opened for consideration.
  • If a member resigns before a term ends, the Athletic Director will appoint a replacement.

Coaches & Influential Community Members

Woodridge recognizes that the success of our athletic programs extends beyond student-athletes. Coaches and influential leaders within the Woodridge community are eligible for induction.
  • Process: Nominations and voting for coaches/influential members follow the same process as Non-Automatic Nominations outlined above.

Character & Conduct Standards

All individuals seeking admittance to the Hall of Fame must demonstrate high morals, character, and integrity.
  • The Woodridge Administrative Team, Board of Education, and Alumni Association Hall of Fame Committee reserve the right to raise and review concerns regarding a candidate’s moral standing.
  • If a concern is raised, a thorough discussion with all involved parties will occur prior to a decision on admittance.
  • These standards apply to all inductees (automatic and non-automatic).
