At Woodridge, our Student-Athlete Spotlights recognize standout performers from each of our varsity sports every season. These features highlight not only the skill and achievements of our athletes, but also the leadership and dedication they bring to their teams.
This week, we are proud to highlight sophomore Freddie Pettit, a versatile and determined student athlete for the Woodridge Football Team. Freddie contributes on both sides of the ball—lining up as a linebacker, offensive lineman, and tight end—and has become a key part of the Bulldogs’ success this season.
Through the first six games of the season, Freddie recorded 30 tackles and a forced fumble, while also earning the respect of his teammates as one of the team’s 2025 captains—an impressive honor for a sophomore. Since then he has continued his versatile and impressive play, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 5-4 record with one game to play.
“Freddie has done everything asked of him this season and then some,” said Head Coach John Daraio. “To start my time at Woodridge, Freddie was a defensive lineman for us, who then at the beginning of summer transitioned to being a linebacker. Over the course of three months he solidified himself as a day one starter there and someone we hope to see as a three-year starter when all is said and done. As the season started, he was in #55 for us on the offensive line, but with some injuries and needs, we moved him to #34 and had him playing TE/FB for us through some key wins. Along with ensuring he is a student first, he is also a leader — seen by his teammates as so and being awarded one of our team captain spots in 2025. It’s been an all-around impressive season thus far for Freddie.”
Freddie’s ability to adapt, lead, and excel in multiple roles speaks volumes about his work ethic and team-first attitude. Congratulations to Freddie on a standout season and for representing our school and football program in a positive and energetic way!
Good luck to Freddie and the entire team as they head to Springfield High School on Friday, October 25th at 7:00 PM for their final regular season game of the year.
