The boy’s varsity bowling team finished in 4th place at the State Tournament held at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Saturday. Sixteen teams started the tournament trying to reach the top eight after the qualifying round.
After scoring a 1,020 in the first game, the Bulldogs found themselves in 5th place. The team had a 940 game their second game which moved them down to 7th place. They were able to post a 977 third game that kept them in 7th place entering into the team baker game round. The team scored a 580 during the three baker games (179, 202, & 199).
Following the qualifying round, the boys had scored just well enough to sneak into the 8th spot. They would face the top seeded, Girard, in the first round of match play consisting of best of five baker games. The boys won the match 3-1 and advanced to face St. Mary’s Memorial in the semi-final. The match went the full five games with both teams battling to win each game. The Bulldogs scored games of 236, 206, 155, 212 & 179. St. Mary’s scored 188, 215, 236, 194 & 203. After defeating the Bulldogs, St. Mary’s went on the win the title defeating Jonathan Alder in just 3 games.
Scoring for the team was led by Angelo Biondo with a 695 three game series (228, 214 & 253). Also scoring was Bryce Oliver with a 621 series (225, 205 & 225), Chad Schoolcraft had a 555 series (183, 197 & 175), Kyle Schneider had a 552 series (203, 184 & 165) and Sam Bergdorf had a 514 series (181, 140 & 193).
* Angelo Biondo’s 695 series earned him a spot on the All Ohio First Team. He was also presented a fourth-place tournament medal.
