The boy’s varsity bowling team finished in 5th place at the OHSAA State Bowling Tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus on Friday. The boys were competing in a field of sixteen other teams from the state of Ohio. Following the qualifying round of three ten pin games and three baker games, the field was cut to the top eight teams that advanced to the match play rounds consisting of the best three out of five baker games. The Bulldogs were at the top of the leader board following the first game and remained in 1st throughout the qualifying round.
Bryce Oliver led the team with an outstanding 739 series (238, 255 & 246). Other scorers included Angelo Biondo with an impressive 709 series (258, 237 & 214), Connor Jewell with a solid 624 series (189, 199 & 236) and Aidan Jewell with a 616 series (213, 226 & 177) and Chad Schoolcraft with a 574 series (197, 198 & 179).
During the three team games the team scored a 1,095, 1,115 and 1,052. In the three team baker games, the team had a 525 series (167, 204 & 154).
Being the #1 seed, the Bulldogs would go up against the #8 seed Galion Tigers in the quarter finals. The Tigers took the first game winning by just one pin 172 to 171. They also won the second game 167 to 148. The bulldogs came back with a 182 to 142 win in the third game. The Tigers completed the upset in game four winning 192 to 174.
Bryce Oliver came in 3rd place in the state as an individual and earned a spot on the All Ohio First Team.
Angelo Biondo came in 6th place in the state as an individual earning a spot on the All Ohio Second Team.
Connor Jewell came in 16th place, Aidan Jewell finished 20th and Chad Schoolcraft was 40th.
Woodridge was very well represented by these Bulldogs at the State Tournament in Columbus!
